ShanghaiDiabetes Institute was established in 2000.The Institute has takena leading role from molecular genetics and pathogenesis to diseasetherapeutics on diabetes and related metabolic disorders in China.The Institute has 21 staffs at various levels, including one memberof the Chinese Academy of Engineering, five professors, threeassociate professors,four assistant professors and three staffswith intergraded technical title.

Professor Weiping Jia graduated from Shanghai SecondMedical University, and is now Professor and Director of ShanghaiDiabetes Institute.Professor Jia is also the Vice President of theDiabetes Society of the Chinese Medical Association (CMA), thePresident of the Diabetes Society of the Shanghai MedicalAssociation (SMA), the Vice President of Endocrinology Society ofSMA, member of the Internal Medicine Committee of CMA and editorsof several medical journals such as “Chinese Journal ofEndocrinology and Metabolism”, “Chinese Journal of InternalMedicine”, “Chinese Journal of Diabetes Mellitus”, etc.She is theprincipal investigator of more than 10 medical projects sponsoredby the key project of the National Natural Science Foundation, theNational Basic Research Program of China ("973 Program"), National863 Project, and the Shanghai Science and Technology Commission.Professor Jia has published more than 250 peer-reviewed originalarticles, reviews, and book chapters.

Professor Jiawon nine Sci-Tech awards from State and Shanghai Municipality andwas awarded the State Special Allowance by the State Council in2004. She was entitled with young and middle-aged expert withoutstanding contributions by the National Ministry of Public Healthin 2006.She was elected as an excellent scientific research leaderby the Shanghai Science and Technology Commission, and was choseninto the“100 Talents Program” of Shanghai Public Health System and“Shanghai Leading Person Program”.
