Shanghai Key Laboratoryof Reproduction Medicine

The Shanghai Key Laboratory for Reproductive Medicine wasestablished in 1998 authorized by Shanghai Science and TechnologyCommittee. Currently there are 19 staff members in the laboratory,including 4 professors and 6 associate professors. Among them 6have doctorate. The main responsibilities of the lab are scientificresearch, talent training and public service. The research work inthis lab has mainly focused on basic and clinic research onreproductive medicine, especially on the mechanisms of maleinfertility. The lab has opened a serious of trainings aboutreproductive medicine for reproductive medicine workers aroundChina and it offers relative tests and diagnoses for patients whohave sterility problems. For the past years the lab has publishedmore than 60 papers at national or international journals and morethan 10 monographs about reproduction medicine and Histology &Embryology, and got one national patent for an invention. In thepast 5 years, 4 doctors and 8 M.S. were graduated from this lab.Currently there are 9 PhD students and 5 M.S. students in this lab.In the recent years, some young scientists and doctoral candidateshave trained in the famous international university such asCalifornia University (Irvine), Michigan University School ofMedicine, University of Nevada, University of Toledo, etc. The labhas several large-scale instruments and equipments such as LaserScanning Confocal Microscope (LSCM), Semen Analyser, Spectroscopy,etc which can provide excellent services for SJTU, otheruniversities and institutes in Shanghai and throughout thecountry.

AcademicBackground:

ProfessorChen Xu, graduated from Anhui Medical University with a M.B. inmedicine in 1984, from  Nanjing Medical University with a M.S.in Histo-Embryology in 1989 and from Shanghai Second Medical University (SSMU) with a Ph.D./ M.D. in  Histo-Embryology& Reproductive Biology in 1993. After receiving his Ph.Ddegree, he continued his postdoctoral research in INSERM U430 inFrance during 1995 to 1997.Then he came back toSSMU.     

 

 

ResearchInterest:

(1) therelationship between reproductive tract infection and humanhealth;

(2) molecularmechanisms in male germ cells differentiation, maturation andfertilization;

(3)Meta-genomics in human reproductive system.
